THIS WEEK IN DOCTOR WHO - 18 SEPTEMBER 1998
Note: In case you weren't in a position to get the update I sent out, the big news of last week was that Maine Public Broadcasting will pick up Doctor Who on Saturday nights at 9PM beginning October 3rd. They will begin airing the show with Tom Baker's episodes. This leaves a mere 190 or so PBS stations to convince to air the show until we have full US coverage!
If you have schedule information or other feedback, you can reach me at bfelliott@jnpcs.com.

The UK:
UK Gold is airing two omnibus stories this weekend. On Saturday they'll air the William Hartnell story The Ark from 10:05AM to 12:05PM. The 1st Doctor, Steven, and Dodo land on a ship in the far future where all of humanity is stored. On Sunday they'll show the colour Jon Pertwee story The Claws of Axos from 10:05AM to 12PM. The 3rd Doctor, Jo, and UNIT's search for the Master is interrupted by the arrival of an alien ship. The aliens offer a substance that could significantly improve the human quality of life. But is the price too high?
Europe:
BBC Prime airs Doctor Who 3 times on Saturdays, at 1:05AM CET, 10AM, and 5:30PM. The 1:05AM and 10AM broadcasts will air episode 2 of The Talons of Weng-Chiang, while the 5:30PM showing will feature episode 3. Of course, many Maine viewers can also receive NHPTV's signals ...
... and this week NHPTV presents episodes 1 and 2 of The Seeds of Death Friday night at 10PM. The 2nd Doctor, Jamie, and Zoe arrive on Earth at the same time that The Ice Warriors arrive at the moon. Will they do lunch together, or fight over whether Earth or Mars gets to rule Earth, with T.Mat as the battlefield? Hint: no waiters get tipped in this story.

By the end of the movie format broadcast, British viewers were left shocked at a story that broke one of the cardinal rules of the series. If you don't know what happens, watch and be surprised. If you do know, get an unsuspecting person to watch with you and gauge the reaction after he or she sees the ending.
WUSF 16 in West Palm Beach, Florida moves on to episode 1 of Kinda, the 5th Doctor story that introduced a new villain, focused on Tegan, and had barely any appearances from Nyssa in it. It all takes place on Deva Loka, a planet haunted by an infamous force. The episode airs at 11:30PM Saturday.
